In August 2023, GBS mbH started the expansion on Ehrenberg-Ost in Ilmenau. After one million euros was invested in a new company building in 2021, another million euros will be invested in the expansion of the company headquarters in 2023/2024.

The investment is necessary to meet the high demand for 3D surface sensors from the smartWLI family. This investment will more than double the production area and create new, modern working environments for the development of innovative products for recording and evaluating nano and micro geometries, surface structures and roughness.

GBS mbH has been producing high-tech products in the field of 3D surface capture and analysis for over 25 years. The smartWLI sensors make a significant contribution to the creation of innovative solutions in the context of Industry 4.0. In addition to inline sensors, we also offer so-called profilometers for quality assurance in the measurement laboratory.

The extension building at Robert-Bosch-Ring 8 in Ilmenau will provide space for production, measurement laboratories and offices. GBS mbH acquired the company site on which the current investment is now being realized from LEG Thüringen, which looked after the company during the settlement. In addition, with Volksbank Thüringen Mitte eG, the Thüringer Aufbaubank, players in the state, in the district and in the city, we have reliable partners to achieve our growth.
Given the good business development over the last three years, continuous growth has been achieved; for 2023 we expect an increase of 15 percent and were also able to further increase the number of employees.
